Cupping is an ancient art, which originated in China. In this therapy, cups are placed directly on the skin at specific points to create suction which improves the flow of energy within the body. The pressure created from the suction draws blood to the surface of the skin where the body’s lymphatic system can absorb it more quickly, clearing stagnation and activating and revitalising the chi. Cups can be applied stationary or by moving them.
Mobilising the cups:-
Performed by mobilising the cups over the tissue by gliding, lifting and separating the fibres of the underlying tissues. I have found this technique useful in the treatment of clients presenting with Upper Crossed Syndrome. The syndrome is often a result of poor posture, commonly found in office workers and gamers where the tissues remain inactive developing an overlapping configuration of overactive and underactive muscle groups.
Benefits of cupping:-
Promotes circulation after injury, the lifting action of the cups promotes a separation in the layers of the tissue useful in compression injury, and breaking up scar tissue. Cupping facilitates a natural chemical response within the body, to enable the sticky non-functioning tissue to glide once more.
Can be useful in the treatment of:-
Headaches, Arthritis, Sciatica, muscular pain, muscular injury, stiff neck.
