Variety is the spice….

Variety is the spice…

Today there are some pretty clever food disguises around. Foods that look and taste completely different but are actually ALL THE SAME.

In a day when you have eaten toast, cereal, bread, crackers, couscous, pasta and cake – you have actually eaten one type of food. Not only that, but the chances are it came from one type of grain – wheat.

And that’s a bit of a problem, because for many people wheat is hard to digest. If you have inflammation, or an auto immune condition, you could explore dropping wheat grain (gluten) from your diet. But it’s best to do this with advice from your health care provider or doctor.

While grains do provide some benefits such as fibre, this can come from other sources like vegetables. And too many grains can cause blood-sugar spikes and even insulin resistance. Click here for our advice on going gluten free.

We are meant to eat a diversity of foods which provide us with the nutrients we need to be active and healthy. So make sure when you shop that you buy foods from different food groups, with fresh vegetables at the top of your list!
